15. Learn About Oku-Yame Tea Through the Senses

Single-Origin Tea Tasting and Green Tea Blending

In the midst of Oku-Yame’s beautiful forests, Kakuda Seicha grows, processes, and sells tea through their own integrated production system. Learn more about the tea of Oku-Yame by immersing your senses through this hands-on program.

First visit a tea plantation tucked away in the forest with spectacular views. Touch the plants that will eventually become tea, and learn about tea cultivation and management as well as the unique characteristics of Oku-Yame tea. If the weather cooperates, you can also experience riding on the large machinery usually used to tend the farms.

Return to the Kakuda Seicha shop and learn about the process that transforms raw tea leaves into the finished tea product. Afterwards, enjoy a tasting of seven different types of single-origin tea, each bursting with its own uniqueness. You’ll also be able to create your very own original green tea blend. It’s an experience only possible at Kakuda Seicha, a tea grower that harvests a wide variety of cultivars.

Green teas are usually preblended and sold to stabilize taste and maintain quality. But as single-origin teas are grown by one variety per field, it maintains the unique flavors of its lands (described by the French loanword, terroir).

Please enjoy the wide range of aromas, flavors, and tastes of Oku-Yame tea, and find your very own one-of-a-kind green tea blend.
